Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to establish a maximum number of terms a Member of Congress may serve.

IN THE SENATE

 


Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to establish a maximum number of terms (also known as term limits), a Member of Congress may serve.

The following article is proposed and resolved as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid as part of the Constitution if or when the following transpires:

 

1. Two-thirds of both the Senate and the House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress must move to allow:

atification by the legislatures of three-fourths of the States of the United State of America.

 

Here is the proposed article.

Article --

SECTION 1. A Representative shall be limited to three two-year terms in such office, and a Senator shall be limited to two six-year terms in such office.

 

SECTION 2. A Senator's or Representative's term in office at the time of ratification of this article shall be applicable and the article enforced immediately respecting, of course, the completion of existing term.

 

SECTION 3. There shall be a six-month time limit within which this article must be voted upon by each state.

 

SECTION 4: Any state not voting within the six-month time limit shall be deemed in favor of the article.

 

SECTION 5: This article will be ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the fifty states of the United States of America to become valid as part of the Constitution.
